ImmuneWatch is a new bioinformatics spin-off company from the University of Antwerp and Antwerp University Hospital (Belgium). At ImmuneWatch we aim to accelerate the development of T-cell based diagnostic tools and therapies. Our mission is to make immune repertoire data interpretable and actionable by annotating T cell receptors in a clinically meaningful way.

To achieve this goal, we are looking for a bioinformatics scientist who will help build and improve the products that will serve our first customers, in close collaboration with the rest of our team. Your job will include:

  • Building, testing and running bioinformatics pipelines (locally and in the cloud)
  • Gathering, curating and organising large-scale bio data sets
  • Contributing to improving the performance of our machine learning algorithms
  • Co-development of novel algorithms and scoring systems in the immuno-informatics space

Profile

We are looking for a candidate with the following skill set or profile:

  • A research-minded person demonstrated by a PhD in bioinformatics, immunology, bioengineering, microbiology (or other relevant research fields) or similar skill level due to experience
  • Skilled in scientific programming (Python, R or Julia)
  • Proficient in English
  • While this position is remote-first, it is currently only applicable to people based in Belgium

You might also have:

  • Work experience with large-scale datasets
  • Work experience with NGS and/or single cell sequencing data
  • Knowledge of scientific workflow languages (Nextflow or snakemake)
  • Knowledge of scalable cloud computing
  • Knowledge of machine learning
  • Knowledge of app containerisation (Docker, Singularity)

What can we offer?

  • As one of the early employees, you will have the possibility to grow together with our company and shape our company culture
  • Opportunity to gain new skills (internally or by attending workshops and conferences)
  • Work to a large extent from the comfort of your own home. (We identify ourselves as a remote-first company)

We aim to build a diverse team as we truly believe this will lead to more innovative products and an inclusive workplace. We therefore would like to encourage everyone who feels qualified (even if not all skill boxes are ticked) to apply, including people from underrepresented groups.
